OverviewMaterneo is an individual farrowing feed and water management system for lactating sows developed by Asserva. It extends the Selfifeeder concept to farrowing by combining programmable individual feed dosing, water micro-dosing and centralized monitoring to prepare sows for the next cycle and reduce feed waste.
Concept and objectivesMaterneo aims to provide programmable and individualized feed distribution, limit feed waste, improve sow intake and lactation, monitor silo supplies and detect farrowing events using camera-based image analysis.
How it worksMaterneo uses a pneumatic wheel dispenser that measures feed and delivers portions in small doses (typically 100–200 g) adapted to each sow's appetite and ingestion rhythm. Each feed portion can be paired with a micro-dose of water; preset water distribution curves maintain fresh water in the trough between meals.
Key functional features- Individual and evolutive feeding plans adapted to each sow's needs.
- Precision dispensing with 3–5 g dispense accuracy.
- Small incremental feed doses to match appetite and eating rhythm.
- TIT System (Trough Inspection Technology) detects empty troughs and triggers distribution.
- Ability to distribute two different feeds.
- Automatic water micro-dosing with programmable curves.
- Bottom-level probes detect consumption to avoid waste and keep troughs clean.
- Silo supply monitoring and automated feed supply management to dosers.
- Farrowing detection via cameras with image analysis and event notifications.
- Central computer for data centralization, remote access (tablet/smartphone) and consumption reports; local warning lights on each doser for quick monitoring.
- Scalable installation and simplified maintenance (pneumatic system, no motor).
Benefits- For the farmer: simplified farrowing feeding management, reduced waste, consumption alerts, remote monitoring and improved workflow.
- For animal welfare and production: moist feed delivered by micro-doses and controlled water intake support lactation, improve intake and prepare sows for the next cycle while saving feed and water.
Additional notesMaterneo is a complete farrowing management concept that combines dosing hardware, trough inspection, water micro-dosing, silo control and camera-based farrowing notifications while centralizing data and providing local indicators per doser.
