PresentationThe Ecopiège acts as a physical barrier. By placing the collar around the trunk, the trap becomes an obstacle for pine processionary caterpillars. The only exit they find is the descent tube which leads them directly into the Ecopiège collection bag where they bury themselves, thinking they are in the soil. Simply empty the bag once all caterpillars have descended (usually late May).
AdvantageMain features- Effectively and safely traps pine processionary caterpillars at the larval stage
- Helps reduce allergies caused by urticating hairs
- Simple and ecological design
- Refill kit available: Ecopiège standard refill bag + mastic
Main usesThe Ecopiège is used to trap pine processionary caterpillars during their descent along the trunk.
OperationThe Ecopiège works purely mechanically. At the end of winter the caterpillars form a "procession" — a line descending the trunk toward the ground. The Ecopiège intercepts these caterpillars during their descent and guides them into the collection bag. Detach and dispose of the bag at the end of the migration.
Available sizes4 Ecopiège sizes are available to fit different trunk diameters:
- For trunks up to 30 cm
- For trunks up to 55 cm
- For trunks up to 80 cm
- For trunks up to 105 cm
Handling & StorageBefore use, store the Ecopiège in a temperate, dry place away from sunlight. To prolong its service life, remove it from the tree after the caterpillar migration and store it protected. The Ecopiège is reusable from year to year.
