DescriptionVigorous deciduous climber. Huge heart-shaped leaves turn scarlet in autumn. Scented flowers followed by small purple fruits. Ht 15 m. This climber is suited to roomy locations where it will not require regular cutting back; it does not tame sufficiently to fit on small trellis panels on a house wall. The large rounded leaves, which can reach almost 30 cm (1 ft) across on a mature specimen, are less lobed than those of common grapevines and have a dimpled texture attractive throughout summer. In autumn the foliage turns fiery red, scarlet, gold and orange. Plants require netting or similar support to cling to.
