The right water supply for your situation Dairy cows need large amounts of drinking water every day. Limiting water intake seriously affects well-being. That is why they must always have unlimited access to clean drinking water. Water plays a key role in milk production. If you give your cows sufficient clean drinking water, they will drink more, eat more, be healthier, which will result in a higher milk production. This sounds easy but the amount of water that a cow can drink is very dependent on the choices you make in this respect. Highly productive cows drink up to 250 liters daily! The guideline for the need of drinking water is four times the milk production per cow, with a minimum of 40 liters. When the temperature is high a cow can produce 20 to 25 liters of water vapor per day. This amount a cow should be able to drink additionally.
