Overview
FaroTek is an individual sow feeding system designed for farrowing pens. It increases voluntary feed intake by dosing the daily ration in multiple small portions, delivered according to each sow’s appetite and individual feed curve.

How FaroTek works

• The sow is connected to the dispenser when entering the farrowing pen.
• An individual feed curve is set for each sow based on body condition, age and parity.
• The system calculates the sow’s daily ration from the curve and divides it into several small portions.
• Feed portions are released when the sow activates a sensor ball, so dosing follows the sow’s appetite rather than fixed times.
• Dosing stops once the sow has consumed her full daily ration.
• The FaroTek Plus option adds a small amount of water to each portion to keep feed moist and more palatable.

Insight into eating behaviour and farm operation
The dispenser features an LED indicator showing feed status (e.g. whether the sow has eaten and if the full ration was consumed). A hand-held terminal identifies individual sows and displays body condition, feed profiles and alarms, enabling immediate adjustments to animal data to prevent errors.

Benefits and saving on feed costs
Correct feed curves combined with individual adjustments ensure optimal daily rations, increasing intake and reducing body condition loss (backfat). This supports higher milk production and more uniform piglets. Over subsequent cycles sows need less recovery and total feed use can decrease. Feed savings can reach approximately 500 kg per place per year.
