This cover is suitable for round tanks and floats directly on top of the slurry (liquid), moving up and down with the fluid level in the tank. In the Netherlands and in many other countries, the floating cover may be used as a cover system to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The system is particularly suitable for covering existing tanks that cannot bear the weight of a tensioned cover. Rainwater collected on the cover can be pumped off the top, increasing the storage volume of the tank. Technical description The floating cover for slurry storage is made from Genatex® 850 PVC film, which is specially designed for contact with slurry and organic liquids. However, other types of film are also available. The cover is slightly tensioned around a floating ring of curved PVC pipes. The edging of the floating cover consists of a hem with an inlaid rope threaded through stainless steel rings. The cover is tensioned with stainless steel tensioners and a heavy-duty tensioning strap, which are attached to the cover with snap hooks. PE floats with gas vents are fitted underneath the cover for evacuating excess gases. Mixing, filling and discharging: PE mixing hatches can be fitted into the cover about 75cm from the edge. Suitable submersible mixers can also be supplied. The tank should preferably be filled and emptied through a piping system through the bottom of the tank. If this must take place over or through the wall (due to local regulatory requirements), the filling and discharge piping will be installed between the cover and the wall. We recommend positioning the end of the filling and discharge point underneath the floating cover at least 1 metre from the wall.
