NEW to the Hoofcount range and launched in 2024 is PediVue.
PediVue is a new state-of-the-art lameness detection device from Hoofcount designed to daily visualise changes to hoof health, provide early detection of any potential issues and in turn, enable dairy farmers to make the earliest treatment. Using a high speed camera is located in the exit of the footbath and machine vision AI, PediVue monitors cow’s hooves daily, detecting early signs of digital dermatitis.
Better for the farmer, better for the cow, better for a sustainable and profitable dairy farming business.
Digital dermatitis affects well over 90% of UK dairy herds contributing to lameness which continues to be one of the main if not the biggest issue within the sector costing an estimated £300 per incident.
While Hoofcount’s automatic footbath system is helping to reduce and control lameness, particularly digital dermatitis on numerous dairy units throughout the UK and overseas, we agreed we needed to develop a device to detect these issues as early as possible in order to enable prompt effective treatment. After designing and trialling various options, we soon became aware that machine learning and AI was the way forward to gain best results.
PediVue’s has escalated from demonstrating an initial 80% accuracy to 100% accuracy when detecting cows hooves, as more cows are being recorded and more information is being supplied to the system.
The technology is ideal for integration into farm management systems, alerting staff to potential lameness issues, offering insights for decision making and providing opportunities to share with the unit’s vet and hoof trimmer.
