OverviewThe R160 Disc Mower is a rear-mounted disc mower designed for 3-point hitch tractors. Key product highlights include easy-to-attach 3-point hitch tractor hookup, high-clearance frame and suspension, and an easily removable disc quill for improved serviceability.
Key features- Easy-to-attach Category 1 and 2 3-point hitch (not quick-hitch compatible)
- High-clearance frame and suspension
- Disc quill easy to remove from top of cutterbar for serviceability
Attachment and hitchThe R160 attaches to tractors with a Category 1 and 2, 3-point hitch and uses a parking stand to hold up 3-point hitch arms for easy hookup. Lower hitch pins can be adjusted left or right to match mower offset for tractors with wider tire spacing; offset range 172 mm (7 in.).
Cutterbar and driveA heavy-duty rotary disc cutterbar is driven by a multi-V-belt drive system transferring power from the gearbox to each rotary disc. Power to discs is transmitted through fully enclosed gears running in oil for quiet, smooth, reliable operation. All models have a spring-loaded belt tensioner that automatically compensates for initial belt stretch to increase belt life.
Discs and knivesHigh-speed rotary discs operate at 2,986 rpm for cutting in tough conditions. The low-profile cutterbar allows a close cut while maintaining a level cutterbar; cutting height is controlled by adjusting cutterbar tilt. Each disc is fitted with two free-swinging knives that are easy to remove and replace, and each knife has two cutting edges to double usable life.
Disc quill and impact protectionThe cutterbar is protected from severe impact by disc drive-shaft shears and removable disc quills. Disc drive-shaft shears reduce the chance of internal damage to the cutterbar and improve cutterbar reliability. Disc quills are removable from the top of the cutterbar for improved serviceability. Each disc can swing away to reduce possible damage if a solid object is struck.
Lift and suspensionThe R160 uses a hydraulic cylinder to lift the cutterbar from the cutting to the transport position where the cutterbar automatically locks into place. A heavy spring establishes even flotation along the full length of the cutterbar for consistent flotation across varying field conditions and topography. The R160 cutting arc is +35 degrees to -22 degrees, providing a wide range of cutting angles.
Additional notesThe R160 shares design concepts with other models in the R-series (R200, etc.), with variation in some arcs and dimensions across those models.
