Plant Water Potential Sensor – FloraPulse Microtensiometer
The FloraPulse microtensiometer is an innovative yet proven MEMS sensor (micro-electromechanical system) for continuous measurement of water potential in woody plants. This sensor features a nanoporous silicon membrane with pore sizes of approximately 2 nanometers, allowing it to measure water potential as low as -35 bars!
After a simple installation process (approximately 20 to 30 minutes), where the microchip tensiometer is embedded into the plant’s woody tissue, the sensor provides real-time, continuous water potential data. This sensor replaces time-consuming, costly, and less reliable manual measurements using a pressure bomb in the field (a high-pressure instrument).
