Tractor-mounted windrower

Overview
The TERRAL Strawer/Mower/Windrower is designed to create a natural mulch on the vine row by cutting existing vegetation and/or cover crops (including weeds). The objective is not to shred the material but to break fibres and leave the vegetation in place to: clear the vine row of weeds, cover the soil to retain moisture during hot periods, prevent new weed emergence and reduce tillage passes that can degrade soil structure.

Main functions

• Strawer: create a natural mulch using the existing green cover (intended performance).
• Mower: clear tall vegetation from the vine row to prepare for conventional inter-row tools and to help detection of vines by sensors.
• Windrower: place prunings and residue into windrows for collection or subsequent shredding.

Usage
Usable from April (before first treatments) until harvest. Recommended on well-developed cover (minimum recommended height: ≥ 40 cm). Suitable for all types of terrain.

Operation
The machine combines several elements to create mulch: an adjustable cutting plate with multi-direction settings using geared wheel systems to adapt to parcel typologies; 8 sets of bristles evenly spaced on the cutting plate that do not injure the vine while cutting weeds; low rotational speed of about 300 rpm which projects cut material to the ground and allows formation of quality mulch.

Mounting and compatibility
Mainly front-mounted on the tractor. Can be combined with a TERRAL crumbling roller or a shredder.

Forward speed
3 to 5 km/h depending on cover density.
