OverviewThe THW-01LNG is a benchtop digital instrument for absolute measurement of thermal conductivity of fluids using the Transient Hot-Wire technique. Measurements are automatic and provide rapid results without requiring calibration or reference samples.
MethodFollowing the transient hot-wire technique, the instrument determines thermal conductivity by recording the temporal temperature rise of a thin wire after a step voltage is applied. Current heats the wire, creating a line heat source in the fluid; two wires of identical type but different lengths remove end effects. The system records resistance rise over time, converts it to temperature rise, applies small corrections (wire heat capacity, variable fluid properties, cell boundaries) and derives thermal conductivity from the slope of temperature vs time.
