DescriptionCommonly called medlar. Deciduous shrub to small tree producing top-shaped fruit that are initially dirty brown-green and later brown. Fruits are crowned by five persistent leaflike calyx lobes and become edible only after frost, when they sweeten. Flowers are white and appear in May–June. Suitable for ornamental planting and small-scale production where late-season fruit is desired.
