Description

In very simple terms, a buffer tank is a storage tank for warm water, i.e. a heat storage tank, that can be used to improve the efficiency of your heating system. Heat that has already been generated can be stored in the buffer for use later on. The required capacity of the buffer tank will be calculated by HORCONEX as an integral part of the heating system design for your whole project. Efficient heat storage If your CHP system is generating power, but you don't presently have a need for the associated heat, you can do two things. You can either allow the heat to be released and lost, or you can store it in a buffer tank for use later on. This could be, for example, at times when the CHP is not producing any heat, or at peak times when it is producing insufficient heat. Clearly, a buffer tank can provide significant benefits in such cases. Heat storage does not require additional capacity. The total amount of heat produced is distributed and used efficiently, avoiding over-capacity. The buffer tank can, of course, also be used in conjunction with other systems that produce excess heat, for example a boiler system and geothermal heating.
