AboutCRAB is an easy-to-operate active optical detector for identifying oil films on water surfaces. The instrument uses a vertical laser beam to compare reflection properties of clean water and oil films, enabling detection of any oil type regardless of composition, viscosity or density.
MethodRemote optical sensing of the water surface using a vertical laser beam.
Principle of operationDetection is based on differences in light reflection between water and oil-covered surfaces.
Features and benefits- Continuous remote optical sensing—no sampling required
- High sensitivity: detects oil films down to 0.5 μm thickness
- Detects mineral, synthetic and vegetable oils
- Unaffected by scattered ambient radiation
- Low sensitivity to ripples and waves (beam/surface angle up to ±20°)
- Waterproof enclosure for outdoor installation
- Optional sensor heating available
- Mounting on fixed points, buoys or motorboats
- Detection accuracy independent of mounting height
- Designed for long-term operation with minimal maintenance
Applications- Monitoring of seas, harbors, lakes and rivers
- Leak and spill detection
- Process and wastewater monitoring
Equipment and options- Oil-slick optical detector CRAB
- Power supply unit for AC 100–240 V mains (optional)
WarrantyCRAB detectors are covered by a 1-year warranty.
ServicesInstallation and commissioning can be performed on-site by the manufacturer's service engineers or by certified distributor engineers.
