How the backflush works Backflush is initiated by a preset differential-pressure or time command. When a unit enters backflush, its inlet valve closes and the drain opens automatically. A compression spring releases, eliminating the pressure differential so the spine piston rises and relieves pressure on the discs. Tangential jets of clean water are pumped through center nozzles in the opposite direction, causing the discs to spin and dislodge trapped solids which are then flushed out via the drain.
What is a disc filter? Disc filters consist of stacked grooved plastic discs. Water passes through grooves while particles larger than the groove size are retained along the grooves. Groove sizes provide filtration grades approximately 25–400 µm. Disc filters are well suited to surface water with high organic load, algae, silt and clay.
