Stallion semen collection dummy

Overview
Equine artificial vagina designed for semen collection used in equine artificial insemination programs. Collection is performed on a phantom fitted with the artificial vagina. Immediately after collection, semen may be used for fresh insemination or processed and placed into a preservation medium for refrigerated storage or for freezing (cryopreservation).

Objectives and Advantages of this technique

• Improve mare fertility through better management of estrous cycles
• Prevent transmission of venereal diseases between stallions and mares
• Avoid mating-related injuries: kicks, bites, bruising and vaginal perforations
• Inseminate multiple mares from a single ejaculate
• Allow insemination of mares geographically distant from the stallion, expanding choice of sires

Use / Procedure
Collection is carried out on a phantom equipped with the artificial vagina. After collection, semen can be used immediately for fresh artificial insemination, or prepared and conserved for refrigerated transport/storage or for freezing and later use.
