Description
Ajuga reptans (carpet bugleweed) is a low-growing evergreen perennial reaching approximately 15 cm in height. It spreads via underground stolons to form a dense, matlike groundcover. Stems are square and leaves are opposite or whorled, typical of the mint family. Basal leaves are dark green and oblong, while flowers are usually blue or purplish, about 1.3 cm long and borne in whorls on erect spikes around 15.2 cm tall. Many cultivars have been selected for foliage or flower colour, making this species suitable for varied landscape uses.
