Description
ABIES grandis (Giant Fir) is a remarkably fast-growing conifer that attains a large size. Needles are dark glossy green above with two glaucous-grey bands beneath and spread horizontally on either side of the shoot. Foliage is fragrant when crushed. Cones are bright green when young. The species tolerates moderately calcareous soils and performs well in mixed stands. Typical applications include timber production, shelterbelts/windbreaks and large-scale ornamental plantings. When planting, allow sufficient spacing for mature dimensions and avoid poorly drained sites.
