Description

Product overview
ZIEHL-ABEGG external rotor motors are typically equipped with thermostatic switches (TB) as standard. Conventional motor protection devices based solely on current or simple bimetal trip units provide incomplete protection for speed-controlled or frequently switched fans. ZIEHL-ABEGG motor protection units are designed to reliably monitor and protect fans and motors, prevent automatic restart after cooling following a fault, and allow protection of multiple motors from a single protective device when applicable.

Product specification
Most external rotor motors from ZIEHL-ABEGG include a thermostatic switch (TB). Explosion-proof motors are fitted with a temperature sensor (TP). IEC standard motors may integrate a TP / PTC thermistor. ZIEHL-ABEGG supplies monitoring and analysis units that process signals from TB and TP sensors for motor protection and condition monitoring.

Properties & special features
  • 3~ motor protection devices monitor the integrated thermostatic switch (TB), provide full thermal protection and enable current distribution to multiple fans. Multiple fans can be connected to a single 3~ device; an integrated overcurrent trigger offers cut-out protection.
  • 1~ motor protection devices monitor one connected motor via the TP or thermostatic switch. TP monitoring devices also support protection of explosion-proof motors using a PTC thermistor release unit.

Version / Scope of functions
  • 3~ motor protection devices: manual switching function, full thermal motor protection, current distribution capability, overcurrent trigger for cut-out protection.
  • 1~ motor protection devices: manual switching function, full thermal motor protection for a single motor.
  • TP monitoring device: enables monitoring of explosion-proof motors and provides a relay output to trigger motor shutdown (PTC thermistor release unit).

Models available (selection)
  • S-ET10E (Motor protection unit for 1~ motors with thermostats)
  • S-ET10 (Motor protection unit for 1~ motors with thermostats)
  • S-DT25E (Motor protection unit for 3~ motors with thermostat switch)
  • S-DT25 (Motor protection unit for 3~ motors with thermostat switch)
  • S-DT16E (Motor protection unit for 3~ motors with thermostat switch)
  • S-DT16 (Motor protection unit for 3~ motors with thermostat switch)

Applications
Designed for protection and monitoring of fans and motors in ventilation and control-technology systems. Applicable for speed-controlled fans, installations with high switching frequency and, when used with TP/PTC monitoring, for explosion-proof motors.

Technical specifications
  • Thermostatic switch (TB) fitted as standard on most ZIEHL-ABEGG external rotor motors.
  • Explosion-proof motors: temperature sensor (TP) for monitoring; IEC standard motors: integrated TP / PTC thermistor.
  • 3~ devices: permit multiple motors/fans to be connected to one device, include overcurrent trigger for cut-out and current distribution capability.
  • 1~ devices: monitor a single motor via TP and enable protection of explosion-proof motors with PTC thermistor release units.
  • Functions: manual switching, full thermal motor protection, relay output for motor shutdown (for PTC thermistor units).
