The ARPAL MK-170TR Antistress (MAX series) is a tractor-mounted (PTO-driven) disc wood shredder with an intelligent Antistress automatic feed system — a shredder that thinks for itself. It processes branches up to 180 mm in diameter of any wood species and moisture level, turning them into high-quality wood chips. Designed for forestry operations, municipal services, agribusiness and contractors. The machine complies with EU safety directives and is trusted by customers in Germany, Denmark, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Canada and beyond.

The output is uniform wood chips of 5–50 mm (90% of the output; fraction depends on input material) — a versatile resource: fuel for solid-fuel boilers and gasifiers, raw material for briquettes and charcoal, premium mulch for soil protection, and chips for professional smoking.

Key features

• Antistress automatic feed system: an electronic control unit continuously tracks cutting disc RPM and controls the hydraulic feed. If RPM drops below 750, the feed pauses and a short reverse pulls the branch off the blades (no jamming, no re-feeding by hand); feeding resumes automatically once RPM recovers. One operator simply feeds branches — the machine's "brain" does the rest. A signal lamp in the tractor driver's line of sight shows when RPM is in the working range.
• Service mode: approximately every 8 operating hours the system prompts a mandatory inspection of critical components (blades and feed rollers) and logs active and cutting time.
• Autonomous hydraulic feed: own 25 L hydraulic system with two hydraulic motors driving the feed rollers — no dependence on the tractor's hydraulics; Italian components, bench-tested. Reverse and feed buttons plus a safety stop handle at the hopper.
• StormBlade shredding technologies: 730 mm cutting disc in 30 mm steel weighing 92 kg — the disc itself acts as a flywheel, easing the load on the tractor; four integrated fan blades eject chips with strong airflow; the disc is balanced after welding.
• 6 CircleCut circular blades in 41CrMo4 steel, induction-hardened to 60 HRC over a ductile core; circular geometry allows rotating the blade to refresh the cutting edge.
• Adjustable, precision-ground counter-blade (10 mm AISI 5140 steel) holds the branch firmly for clean, even cuts — even thin and flexible material like willow; adjustable via slots as blades wear.
• Tool-free blade service: all service points sit under one bonnet with quick-release locks — instant access to blades and disc, no wrenches needed.
• 360° rotating discharge chute with tool-free deflector adjustment; ejection height up to 2,700 mm from the ground (raise the shredder on the tractor linkage to load even higher — straight into truck or tractor trailers).
• Tractor + shredder + trailer in one line: the bevel gearbox turns the shredder 90° to the tractor, and an integrated hitch with a universal pin (ball or eye coupling) at the rear of the frame lets you tow a trailer behind the machine.
• Heavy-duty construction: frame in 8 mm sheet steel with stiffening ribs, disc housing in 10 mm steel, tube-reinforced hopper contour, lifting eye at the center of mass; hopper folds for transport; premium electrostatic powder coating.
• Recommended connection via a cardan shaft with two clutches — friction (overload protection) and overrunning (protects the tractor transmission from disc inertia). Cardan shaft not included; available from ARPAL.
