Overview
Quarantine pen designed for introduction and isolation of gilts and boars on pig farms. Purpose:

• health monitoring of introduced animals
• acclimatization to the farm's microbial environment
• implementation of vaccination and treatment plans
• preparation and selection for reproduction

Location and layout
The quarantine area must be independent and sited on the outskirts of the livestock buildings (recommended 30–50 m distance), with direct access for deliveries and, where possible, oriented perpendicular to prevailing winds to reduce airborne contamination.

Floor area and duration
Size and number of stalls should match incoming stock. Minimum surface area: 1.25 m² per animal on full slatted floors, 1.8 m² on straw. Recommended quarantine period is at least 5 weeks, including a strict clinical observation phase of minimum 10 days.
