DESCRIPTION
Intensive calf fattening relies on cereal-rich rations. Starch is the energy that makes the animal grow, but when it ferments too quickly the rumen pH drops: the calf eats in fits and starts, makes poorer use of the ration and the batch loses uniformity. This is subclinical acidosis, which cannot be seen but is paid for in daily gain.
AMBomba Buffer Complet 1 % is AMBiotec Nutrition's buffering core for beef cattle in intensive systems, from weaning to slaughter. It provides sodium bicarbonate, calcium carbonate and two sources of magnesium (oxide and carbonate), a combination of macrominerals with buffering capacity which, according to the catalogue, stabilises rumen pH on starch-rich diets and reduces the risk of subclinical acidosis. It contains no vitamins or trace elements: it is used together with the ration's mineral supplement or as a buffering core in feeds that already cover those requirements.
Its dose is adjusted to the formula: 6 kg per tonne when the feed already contains an AMBomba mineral supplement and 10 kg per tonne when it does not.
WHAT IT BRINGS TO THE FARM

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

• Administration: orally, via the feed. For use exclusively in the manufacture of animal feed.
• Feeds with an AMBomba mineral supplement: 6 kg per tonne.
• Feeds without an AMBomba mineral supplement: 10 kg per tonne.

Field example: a 10-tonne batch of fattening feed with AMBomba Terneros 0,5 % takes 60 kg of AMBomba Buffer Complet 1 %, two 30 kg bags; without an AMBomba mineral supplement, 100 kg.
Practical points: check the total sodium in the ration, especially if the feed already contains bicarbonate or salt (AMBomba Terneros 2 % Natura and 4 % already include bicarbonate); pre-blend with part of the feed before it goes into the mixer; and handle it with a dust mask, gloves and goggles.
COMPOSITION AND ANALYTICAL CONSTITUENTS

• Physico-chemical properties: coarse greyish powder with a characteristic odour; pH 7 ± 1; density 1.4 ± 0.3 g/ml; water solubility below 15 %.
• How the formula works: bicarbonate neutralises excess acid in the rumen, and the carbonates and magnesium oxide reinforce that buffering capacity.
