When to use it
The GRSI rotating drum screen is suitable for installation on intakes from sea, lake or river water for cooling systems, desalination, potable water treatment, irrigation and industrial process water supplies.

How it is made

• Sturdy cylindrical support structure reinforced by radial steel profiles to provide a large free cylindrical surface able to withstand hydraulic loads and rotation in water.
• Series of removable filter panels bolted to the structure; each panel has a frame with square mesh or perforated plate.
• Fixed central shaft supporting the drum.
• Two side supports with special self-lubricating bushings sized for continuous operation in water and to support drum rotation relative to the fixed shaft.
• Gearmotor with cylindrical gears driving the drum via a pinion engaging a rack.
• Counter-current washing bar with high-pressure nozzles to clean the filtering surface from inside to outside.
• Hopper to collect screened material and wash water.
• Sealing with gaskets mounted between the rotating drum and a fixed steel part attached to the channel wall.
• Overload protection by standard dynamometric devices or, on request, electronic absorption limiters.
• Simple, rugged design and fully automatic cleaning for sustained performance and long-term reliability.

How it works
Axial incoming flow meets the closed front of the drum and is forced to pass through the cylindrical filtering surface from outside to inside. Filtered water recombines inside the drum and is discharged axially. Solids retained on the outer surface are removed by washing water sprayed counter-currently from the inside to the outside of the drum and are collected in the hopper.
